Trained as an architectural professional and researcher, I have always been fascinated by the integration of sustainable innovations. I joined Leers Weinzapfel Associates in 2014, a Boston based practice whose work lies at the intersection of architecture, urban design, and infrastructure. It is nationally recognized for its exceptional quality of design for universities and civic clients, and has been recognized as the industry leader in mass timber and campus infrastructure. Having the opportunity working with LWA given me the first-hand experience collaborating with world-class experts in mass timber and sustainable solutions.
It is clear that we are at an unique moment in architectural and building engineering history when shifting world needs has asked us to question some of the fundamentals of how we have built for the last century and how we will build in the next. Just as the automobile industry, energy sector, and most other industries will see innovations that challenge the conventions of the way we will live in this century, the building industry must seek innovation in the fundamental materials that we choose to build with. Mass timber is no doubt a major opportunity for systemic change in the building industry, and I see great opportunities in Taiwan where I am able to contribute my expertise and also exploring innovative applications/solutions tackling climate change and the future of building industry.
