Abstract
Vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL)-pumped photonic crystal lasers were studied. The lasers were defined by electron beam lithography and the pattern was transferred into the semiconductor using a series of dry etching steps. Cavity design based on finite-difference time-domain and finite element numerical simulations was discussed. Pulsed, optically-pumped lasing was demonstrated at and above room temperature in photonic crystal resonant cavities using an 860 nm VCSEL pump.
