Abstract

Taipei's growing population has necessitated serious measures to tackle the problem of inadequate sewage disposal. A masterplan drawn up in 1972 is scheduled for completion by the year 2000. A programme for monitoring ground settlement during blind shield tunnelling on the Fu-Yuan Street section of the scheme has yielded valuable information on ground response to the chosen method of tunnelling.
