Quantitative spectral analysis of HCl and DCl in 120-220 nm: Effects of singlet-triplet mixing

Abstract

Photoabsorption cross sections of HCl and DCl in the spectral region 120-220 nm were measured using synchroton radiation as a light source. Ratios of observed oscillator strengths to calculated Franck-Condon factors of the C 1π state decreased with vibrational levels both for HCl and DCl. The asymmetric absorption contour of HCl in the region 134-220 nm and the atypical deuterium isotopic shift of absorption maximum to a small triplet character in the ground state due to spin-orbit coupling were attributed.
