Abstract

The absorption and emission spectra of fluorescent and phosphorescent states of the s-tetracyanobenzene-toluene complex, as well as the rise and decay curves of both states were observed at 77°K. The electronic structure of the fluorescent state is strongly polar, from which ionic dissociation occurs. The phosphorescent state, which is less polar, is formed from the excited Franck-Condon state of the complex, not through the fluorescent state.
