Observation of a linear mean-free-path dependence of the electron-phonon scattering rate in thick aupd films

Abstract

We have fabricated several thick AuPd films with residual resistivities ρ0 varying from 69 to 229 ¼Ω cm. With this wide range of experimentally accessible ρ0, we are able to study the dependence of the electron-phonon scattering time τe-ph on the electron elastic mean free path l. We have measured the magnetoresistivities of these films and compared our results with weak-localization theory to extract τe-ph. Our results indicate a temperature and mean-free-path behavior of 1/τe-ph∼lT2. This observation is in disagreement with current theoretical understanding of electron-phonon interaction in disordered conductors.
