Abstract
We report new experimental results on electro-optical effects of a twisted nematic (TN) liquid crystal cell caused by ionic impurities within the cell. By using a published ion-generation equation that took both field-assisted and thermal-activated behaviors into consideration, for the first time, we have identified methods of measurement and analysis to obtain the ion concentration and the activation energy of low-ionization-rate impurities within a TN cell.
