Abstract
The collective excitations of symmetric wide quantum wells under in-plane magnetic fields were investigated using random phase approximation (RPA) method. A high in-plane magnetic field induces an additional branch of undamped acoustic-like plasmons, which does not exist in single quantum wells without in-plane magnetic fields. It is found that the in-plane magnetic field affects the frequencies, (an-)isotropy and types of the plasmon modes.
