Minimizing voltage-dependent color shift in reflective Cholesteric LCDs

Abstract

Cholesteric Liquid Crystals (CLCs) have the severe blue shift phenomenon which depends on the applied voltage. This phenomenon is a serious hindrance to its potential display applications. In this study, the host dielectric anisotropic (Δε) and birefringence (Δn) were fine-tuned by mixing negative and positive nematic LCs. The experimental results show that the blue shift can be effectively minimized.
