Measurement of far-field emission of semiconductor micro-disk lasers

The far-field emission patterns of micro-disk lasers with various disk diameters are directly measured. Standing-wave like intensity pattern in the φ direction is observed and the emission angle in the θ direction is determined. A numerical calculation is performed to verify the dependence of full width at half maximum angle on the disk diameter and thickness. The fields at the disk surface are calculated with use of the conformal transformation method and the far-field pattern is obtained by use of the vectorial diffraction formulation. The polarization of lasing light is linearly polarized along the φ direction which agrees with numerical calculation.
