A nanostructure surface treatment is proposed to improve the response time and driving voltage of cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) devices. With nanostructure surface, threshold Voltage (Vth) can be reduced ∼10% with minimum reflectance loss. The transition time can be greatly reduced by 80% and multi-level gray scale can be achieved with new driving scheme in the nanostructure enhanced CLC cell.
