Abstract

We have implemented a coarse wavelength-division-multiplexing scheme based on uncooled long-wavelength vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) for 10-GbE transmission over 62.5-mm multimode fiber. Long-wavelength VCSELs were fabricated at the nominal wavelengths of 1275, 1300, 1325, and 1350 nm and integrated into a XENPAK module. Individual VCSELs require a drive current of 10 mA or less at 20 °C-85 °C.
