Abstract

A mathematical model haa been developed as a generalized computer program to simulate leaching from solid waste landfills. This model was based on the unsaturated flow equation, the solute transport equation, the water balance equation and incorporating the equations of chemical and microbial processes. Good agreement is obtained with the experimental data reported by Wigh and Brunner (1). This model can be applied to evaluate leachate quantity, predict the strength of various contaminants in leachate, and design and avoid failure of the leachate collection system.
