Isomers of SNO2: Production and infrared spectra of cis- and trans-OSNO from irradiated inert matrices containing OCS and NO2

Abstract

N2 and Ar matrices containing OCS and NO2 were irradiated with laser emission at 248 nm. As a result, c-OSNO and t-OSNO were produced and identified for the first time. Based on experiments with 15N- and 18O-isotopes and on theoretical calculations, lines at 1156.1 and 1454.4 cm-1 were assigned to S-O and N-O stretching modes of c-OSNO, but those at 1178.0 and 1459.0 cm- to S-O and N-O stretching modes of t-OSNO isolated in solid N2. Experiments on Ar matrices containing OCS and NO2 showed similar results but exhibit more complicated site-splitting.
