In-situ formation of nano-dispersed hydroxyapatite in poly(propylene fumarate) matrix

Abstract

The nano-dispersed hydroxyapatite (HAp) crystallization in solution with poly(propylene fumarate) (PPF) was investigated. A 0.4 M solution of calcium nitrate in tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution was prepared, and THF solution of PPF was added to the calcium nitrate solution. X-ray diffraction analysis and FTIR spectroscopy were used to confirm the presence of the apatite within the polymer. The results suggests that HAp can successfully precipitate inside the poly(propylene fumarate) polymer matrix, through in-situ crystallization.
