Hough transformation for the detection of seismic patterns

Abstract

Hough transformation is used to detect seismic patterns on seismograms. In one-shot seismograms, the direct wave pattern and refracted wave pattern are straight lines and the reflected wave pattern is hyperbola, so it is applicable to use the Hough transformation to detect the seismic patterns. The algorithm for the detection of hyperbola or reflected pattern is proposed, In a stacked seismogram, the diffraction pattern can also be detected by the Hough transformation technique. (Figure Presented) The Hough technique system includes envelope generation, thresholding, Hough transformation, and parameter determination. Each image element in the picture space (T-X) is transformed into parameter space. Visual inspection method, local peak detection algorithm, and clustering algorithms are used to determine the parameters. The clustering algorithm includes K-means algorithm with bottom-up hierarchical algorithm and PFS-value method. From the experiment, the results are quite encouraging and useful to automatic seismic interpretation by computer.
