High-Q photonic crystal hetero-slab-edge microcavity laser for index sensing

Abstract

We design a photonic crystal hetero-slab-edge microcavity sustaining surface mode with high quality factor ~5.4×105 and index sensitivity of 591 nm/refractive index unit by mode-gap effect. Lasing actions from real devices are also observed.
