Abstract
A high-speed GaAs monolithic laser-driver IC for the transmitter of a high-data-rate optical communication system has been developed. The IC has been designed to operate from DC to 2Gb/sec and to be compatible with the Si ECL at low data rates in the power supply voltage and the input signal level. It is provided with terminals to control the peak current and the bias current independently so as to control the laser output. The experimental ICs exhibit a maximum current-driving capability of 50mAp-p with a rise time and fall time of 100 psec each at 2Gb/sec data rate.
