Fast and simple image registration for fusion applications in digital still camera

Abstract

Registration is a kernel technique for various image fusion applications, such as high-dynamic-range imaging, image noise reduction, digital image blending, etc. Applications are successful or not depending on efficient and accurate image registration. We proposed a fast and simple method even if the image exposures are different. The method aligns images horizontally and vertically through binary operations. Misaligned artifacts are avoided both in near and far sided images. Several raw images captured from a Nikon D70 camera are used to demonstrate the performance.
