Many simulation languages exist that aid the analyst in translating the abstract representation of the system, the model, into a computer program. Although these languages provide a great improvement over the general purpose procedure oriented languages, the user is still required to have a considerable amount of knowledge about the details of their rules and techniques to successfully construct a high level simulation program. The task of model building is still left to the user. Little has been done to help the user create an abstraction of the system under study in form of a model. This paper presents a rule-based system that aids the user with little or no knowledge of simulation model building to construct simulation models. The system also automatically creates the corresponding computer programs.
