Estimating the propagation constant of the microstrip leaky wave antenna using multi-line and matrix pencil method

Abstract

Two simple and efficient methods to estimate the propagation constant of the microstrip leaky wave antenna are studied in this paper. By the use of the structural symmetry, the insertion of symmetry perfect electric conductor walls can force the transmission line to operate at a single odd mode. The multi-line method and the matrix pencil method can then be used to estimate the corresponding complex propagation constant with the aid of full-wave simulators. These methods can be a valuable tool for the accurate design of microstrip leaky wave antennas.
