Abstract

The enhancement of power efficiency of organic photovoltaic (PV) devices by blending with ionic solid liquid electrolyte was investigated. The polymer PV device consisted of a layer of polymer thin film sandwiched between a metal cathode and a transparent anode (indium-tin-oxide). It was found that the power efficiency of the organic PV devices was enhanced by adding polyethylene oxide into the active layer. The results show that the enhancement of photovoltaic efficiency is due to the optimized polymer morphology, the in situ photodoping of poly[2-methoxy-5-(2 -ethyl-hexyoxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene] and the improved electrical conductivity.
