Abstract

Electro-optical (EO) properties of fullerene-doped homeotropic liquid crystal (LC) cell have been investigated. Fullerene-doped LC has been proposed by Sharp to provide a high performance LC display without using alignment layers. However, the studies of threshold voltage, response time, hysteresis of voltage-dependent transmission in this work show that the fullerene dopant in a homeotropic LC cell does not improve the electro-optical properties and produce more residual dc.
