The effects of preferred orientation on the magnetic properties of Co-Ni thin films, prepared in an ultra-high-vacuum vapor deposition system, have been investigated. A variety of single-crystal substrates are used with a 2000 A intermediate Au layer in order to obtain Co-Ni films with different structures and orientations. The dependence of magnetic properties on structure was examined by measurements of the coercive force, H//c. Results are discussed.
