Dual directional overdriving method for fast response LC-lenses on autostereoscopic 3D display

Abstract

A fast response Dual Finger Electrode Liquid Crystal Lens (DFE-LC lens) which could provide dual directional overdriving method was proposed. By the proposed controlling sequence, the vertical and lateral electric fields could be obtained simply to reduce the focusing time as well as recovering time of LC lens, respectively. Therefore, the response time (t focusing and t recovering) could be further reduced to 2s, which was much faster than current LC lens(∼ 8s). In addition, the proposed LC lens could apply not only for fast switching 2D/3D display but also for potential high resolution 3D display with scanning LC lens.
