Abstract

This paper develops a continuous wavelet transform algorithm to identify the dynamic parameters of a cable-stayed bridge under environmental wind field. Using such a technique, the dynamic characteristics of the Kao Ping Hsi cable-stayed bridge in Taiwan will be determined. The natural frequencies, damping ratios, and modal shapes identified from the ambient vibration test will be compared with those used in the finite element analysis. A comparison of the identified results with the finite element results shows a reasonable match for first five modes in three directions, respectively, vertical, lateral, and torsional directions. Then, the rational finite element model of Kao Ping Hsi cable-stayed bridge can be established. The results obtained herein will be used as the initial conditions for assessing the long-term safety of the Kao Ping Hsi cable-stayed bridge.
