The design of line sequences for two-wire full-duplex digital subscriber loop transmission is considered. The various considerations arise because the performance of the adaptive echo cancellers and equalizers depends on their input characteristics, which in turn depend on the scrambler output characteristics. All these characteristics are affected by the extra bits that are inserted into the original data stream to make up the desired line rate.
