Abstract

An overview is given on the general characteristics of instantaneous resonance modes (IRMs), which include, low-frequency, and quasilocalized instantaneous normal modes (INMs). For the truncated Lennard-Jones (TLJ) fluid, it is shown that the IRMs are only evident in the imaginary-frequency lobe. Evidence is also given indicating that the IRMs basically occur in strongly anharmonic, single-well potentials.
