Abstract

The development of different optical disk formats for the next generation optical storage proposed by ITRI and AOSRA of Taiwan industry using blue laser was discussed. The three disk formats were Blu-Ray Disk (BD),the HD-DVD (AOC), and HD-DVD. The Blue HD-DVD adapts the optical design as the AOD format using an NA=0.65 objective lens. Blue HD-DVD-2 uses an optical system similar to that of BD with NA 0.85. The comparison of the error correction code (ECC) for Blue HD-DVD and the present DVD was performed in which the ECC rate was 4380 out of 55404 bytes for Blue HD-DVD and 4832 out of 33024 for DVD.
