A software framework for software radio

In this paper, we propose a software framework for the third-generation wireless communication systems. This framework is based on CORBA that is a distributed object-oriented standard. The thirdgeneration wireless communication equipment can execute its processes on CORBA's ORBs. We also define a Basic Bearer Service (BBS) using CORBA IDL. Based on this BBS, the handheld can dynamically change software modules of controlling hardware components. In addition, we emulate software radio environment on a LAN to prove the capability of dynamically downloading hardwarecontrolled software modules in the Software Radio to change modes and frequency, and show that it can achieve smoothly hand-over in our proposed architecture.
