Abstract

A novel LED illumination for TFT-LCD and general lighting was demonstrated. This configuration is achieved by utilizing a remote YAG:Ce 3+ phosphor converter (RPC) to accompany blue LED chips (457 nm wavelength) array on a board. In this study, the experiment results indicate that the proposed illumination configuration can achieve high luminance efficiency, slim configuration and low color deviation for TFT-LCD backlight and lighting applications. Additionally, the proposed configuration is low-cost, can be manufactured quickly, and can be mass-produced economically.
