Abstract
A 4-bit quantizer implemented with AlGaAs/GaAs heterojunction bipolar transistors for use in high-speed analog-to-digital conversion is presented. The circuit contains 16 voltage comparators, a resistor ladder for reference voltage generation, encoding logic, and output buffers. Proper operation of quantizers at sampling rates higher than 1 gigasample/s was demonstrated. The static nonlinearity was consistent with 8-bit accuracy.
