Abstract

The continuous wavelength tuning as wide as 25 nm near 970 nm in a micromachined tunable vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) utilizing a new microelectromechanical system process is studied. The behaviour of VCSEL during detuning is also studied and a direct means to determine internal VCSEL parameters are described.
