Personal profile
Education
Dr. Lau Gih-Keong received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands, in 2007, and the M.Eng. and B.Eng degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University in 2000 and 1998 respectively.
Research Interests
My research expertise is in the field of applied mechanics, and mechanical and aerospace engineering. Vision of my research is to innovate the actuator and sensor technologies. My research solved technological challenges by extreme mechanics, multi-disciplinary design and analysis, and micro-and-nano-engineering. This brought breakthroughs in the performances to micro-actuators, electro-active polymer actuators, soft and aerial robotics, smart windows, and other tunable acoustic/optical devices.
Awards
He had received several awards for serving university and international professional society. He is a recipient of Junior Chair Professor Award from National Chiao Tung University in 2019. He is a recipient of 2017 MAE Service Award from the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University. He received Tan Chin Tuan Fellowship in 2015 and was a visiting professor to École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in June 2015.
Experience
He is an associate professor with Department of Mechanical Engineering, at National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan. He was an assistant professor with School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is an associate editor to the 2017 and 2018 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2017 and 2018). He was a member of international advisory boards in the International Conference - Smart and Multifunctional Materials, Devices, Structures (CIMTEC) in 2012 and 2016. He is a recipient of a Meinhardt Book Prize in 1998.
